RPS to supply new co-polyester elastomer
laser sintering material from ALM

April 2018

RPS, leader in 3D printing manufacturing, service, distribution of materials and industrial 3D printing systems, is now supplying the ALM TPE-360 co-polyester elastomer, under its sole distributor agreement to supply ALM materials within the UK and Ireland. The new polymer material has high reusability, competitive pricing and superior properties to drive innovation for automotive, footwear and medical industries, and for parts service bureaus.

A high-performing polymer material, the ALM TPE-360 is ideal for a variety of powder-based additive manufacturing techniques, including laser sintering processes and non-laser powder-based sintering processing, such as high-speed sintering. An alternative to thermoplastic polyurethane and nylon-based polymers, the ALM TPE-360 material creates 3D printed products with enhanced toughness, abrasion resistance, tear and fatigue resistance and flexibility. The material has unique properties and may potentially be used as an elastomer or where flexible nylons are needed.

The uniquely tailored properties enable ALM TPE-360 to have the following in-process and post-production capabilities:

  • High recyclability: ALM TPE-360 is highly recyclable, eliminating powder waste in the laser sintering process because it can be sifted and reused.
  • Toughness and flexibility: This advanced elastomer delivers superior abrasion, tear, and fatigue resistance needed for automotive interiors. It can also flex, bend, and stay soft after production, making it ideal for applications such as athletic shoes and insoles.
  • Ease of Processing: Unlike some other materials, ALM TPE-360 requires limited post-processing, saving time and the cost associated with polishing, painting, infiltration, and dyeing.

“We are proud to make unique materials that meet our customers’ needs,” said Donnie Vanelli, president of ALM. “The material we will offer is one of the most advanced in the polymer market today and expands our offering to customers who prefer the quality of laser sintering 3D printing.”

RPS Director David Storey is pleased to be distributing the ALM TPE-360 due to the high quality of the material and the advantages it brings to customers. “The advantages of the material are that it requires limited post-processing and no infiltration. Companies will see the benefits of this material such as tear resistance, flexibility and reusability which is something new unlike previous elastomeric materials we have seen before.”
